Disenchanted, narrated by Pip the chipmunk, continues the story a few years after the first movie’s happily ever after. Giselle and Robert, now parents of a baby girl, face the challenges and exhaustion of early parenthood.
Their once cozy apartment feels cramped, and to add to their troubles, Morgan, their teenage daughter, becomes increasingly moody, straining her relationship with Giselle. In search of a fresh start, the family decides to move to the suburban town of Monroeville.
A Magical Wish Turns Life Upside Down
Despite their hopes for a better life, the family’s problems persist in Monroeville. Giselle, desperate to find happiness for her loved ones, uses a magical Andalasian wand to wish for the perfect fairy-tale life. Initially, her wish seems to come true as Monroeville transforms into the enchanting Monrolasia, where Morgan happily sings alongside Giselle and Robert embraces his inner adventurer ready to battle dragons and ogres.
However, Giselle soon discovers the unintended consequences of her wish. She begins transforming into a wicked stepmother, and to make matters worse, the wand is stolen. A mystical scroll that accompanied the wand reveals that Giselle must reverse the wish before midnight strikes for the final time.
Does Giselle Reverse the Wish?
Giselle’s transformation intensifies with time, mirroring the traits of a wicked stepmotherāvain, cruel, and ambitious. She realizes that she can’t make things right while she remains in this state. Taking drastic measures, Giselle pushes Morgan into a well, sending her down into Andalasia. As Giselle fully embraces her newfound wickedness, she sets her sights on becoming the queen. With the help of Pip, who has turned into an evil cat, Giselle plans to steal back her wand from Malvina’s henchwomen and challenge Malvina at the royal ball.
Does Morgan Help Giselle Remember?
Morgan arrives in Andalasia to find the realm fading away due to Giselle’s spell, symbolized by a giant hole in the sky draining its magic. She shares the truth with Nancy and Edward, who remind her of the power of memories in restoring the real Giselle. Following Nancy’s advice, they visit Giselle’s memory tree, which is on the brink of dying. When Morgan touches it, the memories and leaves come back to life, recognizing her connection to them. Encouraged by Nancy, Morgan brings all the memories to life, which sparks a swirl of magic teleporting them back to Monrolasia.
In a surprising twist, Morgan discovers that the magic of the memories has transferred into a drawing of a memory tree she created during her childhood. Rushing to the ball where Giselle and Malvina are fighting, Morgan trips, causing the drawing to fly towards Giselle. Despite still being under the spell, Giselle tears up the paper, but the pieces continue swirling around her, revealing fragments of memories. Finally, Giselle remembers who she truly is.
Do the Two Worlds Survive?
As Giselle regains her true self, Monrolasia continues to drain Andalasia’s magic, resulting in the collapse of the two worlds into each other. Malvina captures Morgan and forces Giselle to drop the wand, and in a final act of destruction, Malvina breaks it in half. Without magic, Giselle weakens as Andalasia suffers. Robert rushes to prevent the clock from striking midnight, buying them some time before the spell becomes permanent.
Knowing that the magic cannot be undone, Giselle instructs Morgan to make a wish using a piece of the broken wand. Initially hesitant because she believes she is not a true daughter of Andalasia, Morgan receives a heartfelt speech from Giselle, affirming her unconditional love and stating that Morgan is indeed a true daughter. Drained of her powers, Giselle falls to the ground as if dying while Morgan uses the wand to wish she was back home with her mother.
With the wish granted, Morgan awakens in her own bed, finding Giselle alive, and everything returns to the way it was before.
The Fate of Malvina Monroe
Aside from Giselle and Morgan, everyone seems to consider their experiences as nothing more than a dream, even Robert. Giselle seeks out Malvina and apologizes for going too far in her efforts at school, explaining it was all for the sake of Morgan. Surprisingly, Malvina admits that she also tends to go too far sometimes and offers Giselle a spot on one of the school’s committees.
How Disenchanted Ends
Disenchanted concludes with the family of three contentedly settled in Monroeville. Robert establishes a small practice in town, eliminating the need for daily commutes to New York. Morgan adjusts well at school and forms a close bond with Tyson, Malvina’s son. Giselle acknowledges that not everyone achieves the perfect happily ever after, but they cherish both the good and bad days, never taking them for granted.
